We are pleased to share an upcoming symposium focused on moving from recognising racial harm to building meaningful and lasting change across higher education and beyond.
This free event has been developed for practitioners, researchers, policymakers, and leaders committed to advancing racial equity. The day will centre evidence-informed discussion alongside practical approaches to change.
Programme Overview
The symposium follows a three-part structure reflecting the lifecycle of institutional engagement with racial harm:
- Introduction — Lord Simon Woolley
- Strand 1: Recognising Harm — Keynote by Professor Kehinde Andrews
- Strand 2: Responding to Harm — Including contributions from Professor Nicola Rollock
- Strand 3: Preventing Harm — Lead address by Dr Akile Ahmet
The day will also feature:
- Panel discussions
- Practitioner workshops led by Professor Jason Arday (Faculty of Education), Aisha Sanusi (ACEN), Dr Shola Apena Rogers, and Empathy Studios
- Student contributions and flash presentations
- An evening open mic and dinner
