The Advisory Group to the University’s Special Initiative on Legacies of Enslavement invites expressions of interest from students for the two student places on the group.
The Legacies of Enslavement Special Initiative was set up in Easter Term 2025 to take forward the work and recommendations of the report published in 2022. Over the next three years, the Initiative will develop a programme of work ranging from public engagement, international collaborations, support research and facilitate discussion on the theme of the University’s historical links to enslavement, broader histories touching on empire, colonialism and black lives, as well as on the afterlives of enslavement and their bearing on present-day inequalities. The Initiative is being hosted by the School of Social Sciences and Humanities and is convened by Prof. Pedro Ramos Pinto. Until its website is complete, brief details are available here.
The Advisory Group will be chaired by Lord Simon Woolley, President of Homerton College, and will support and advise the strategic work of the initiative. Further details are included in the Terms of Reference Attached.
The Advisory Group is seeking one undergraduate and one postgraduate student for membership doing the academic year 2025-2026. Students interested in the role should email legaciesnetwork@admin.cam.ac.uk with a brief statement outlining how their interests and experience would fit one of the positions by 15th October. Questions can be directed to the convenor, Prof. Pedro Ramos Pinto (pr211@cam.ac.uk).
